UC Patients Accept Flares as a Fact of Life

The constant threat of flares affects patients, even those currently being treated, and those who describe themselves as being in remission.

In the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) survey9:

  • 74% of responders had experienced flares during the previous 12 months
  • One out of five patients had experienced five or more flares in the past year
  • Patients underestimate disease severity, possibly because they adapt their lifestyles

"Our results suggest that treatment satisfaction is closely linked to disease activity and therefore efficacy of the treatment."9
Edward V. Loftus, Jr, MD

"…there is a need for a drug treatment that will encourage increased compliance and as a consequence offer significantly improved clinical outcomes for patients with UC."9
Edward V. Loftus, Jr, MD
